Conservation and environmental issues
A few Norwegian rivers have been infected with the parasite Gyrodactylus Salaris. At present around 20-25 rivers are infected, mostly in the county of Nordland and in some areas on the west coast. The Norwegian River Authorities are extremely vigilant in their efforts to prevent the spread of the parasite and the disinfection of equipment and waders has become the norm. All fishing equipment including boots and wading boots, and also boats must be disinfected before permission will be granted to fish in the Beiar river and its tributaries, regardless of where the equipment have been used before.
